USA 25-CENTS (KM496)

Roosevelt Elk

In 2010, the US Mint launched the "America the Beautiful" quarters program. Five quarters will be issued each year through 2020 (and one in 2021), for a total of 56 different designs. Each quarter will depict a national park or site from each of the 50 states, the federal district, and each territory).

The majestic Roosevelt Elk (aka Olympic elk, aka Cervus canadansis roosevelti) stands on a gravel bar of the Hoh River with a view of Mount Olympus in the background. This the largest of the four surviving sub-species of elk in North America, and was one of the driving factors in the establishment of the park.
