Ireland 1-FLORIN (KM15a)

Salmon

The Irish 'Barnyard Series' of coins features animals that were very important to Ireland's mainly agricultural economy.

The florin features a salmon. The fishery played an important part in Ireland's early agricultural economy. This design appeared on the first coinage of the Irish Free State in 1928 (KM7), and was struck in silver. The salmon design was continued with a modified obverse in 1939 (KM15) and this issue in copper-nickel was struck from 1951 to 1968.
