Iceland 10-KRONUR (KM29.1a) Capelins

The capelin is a small smelt found in huge quantities in the Arctic Ocean. They are used to make fish meal, and are important meals for wild fish, especially Atlantic Cod.

Originally struck in 1984 in copper-nickel (KM29), this coin was switched to nickel-clad steel in 1996. The obverse of this coin features the mythological four Guardian Spirits of Iceland.
