Japan 50-SEN (Y50) Phoenix
The phoenix (hoo), represents the virtues of the emperor, and is a common symbol on Japanese money.
This double phoenix motif first appeared on the silver 50 sen coin during the final years of Emperor Yoshihito's reign (1922-1926 Y#46). The design was continued by Hirohito starting in the third year of his reign (1928) and was minted until 1938.
