Tanzania 5-SHILINGI (KM6) Zebu (cow)
The Zebu are sometimes called 'humped cattle' and there are about 75 breeds in Africa and South Asia. They are well adapted to hot climates. On this coin, the zebu occupies one of four slots showing local food sources.
This food source design first appeared on KM5, which was minted in 1971 (but has no date). This version has the same zebu + food source design on the reverse, with a modified obverse. It was minted in 1972, 1973, and 1980. A smaller version with the same design was minted from 1987 to 1993 (KM23/23a).
