Burundi 5-FRANCS (KM27)

Yellow-billed stork

In 2014, Burundi issued a commemorative set of coins featuring birds. The combined mintage of 1.8 million indicates they are intended for circulation.

The Yellow-billed stork (aka wood stork aka wood ibis aka Mycteria ibis) is found in wetlands, shallow lakes, and mudflats across eastern Africa. Unlike other wading birds, it is believed they hunt mostly by sense of touch, rather than vision.
