USA 25-CENTS (KM386) Common Pheasant

The state quarter program was launched in 1999, with five different quarters being issued each year for 10 years.

South Dakota's state bird is the Chinese Ring-necked Pheasant (aka Common pheasant), and on this coin design we see Washington, Jefferson, Roosevelt, and Lincoln all saying to the bird "don't you dare." The common pheasant is from Asia, and is one of only three state birds that are not native.

  • Diameter: 24.1 mm
  • Composition: Copper-Nickel clad copper
  • CAT#: KM386
