Mexico 100-PESOS (KM493)

Northern Caracara

This 100-peso piece (1984-1992) shows the eagle in a semi-stylized mode. On some coins, the eagle becomes very stylized.

The reverse features Venustiano Carranza de la Garza, a leader in the Mexican Revolution and President of Mexico from 1917 to 1920. A bunch of army generals had him killed before he left office, because he insisted he should be succeeded by a civilian, and not one of them. Good idea, but too much for the generals to bear.
