This coin is from 'The Russian Federation' series, a series of coins that started in 2005 with each celebrating a region of Russia.
This issue is for the Belgorod Oblast and features a lion and eagle from the coat of arms. The Belgorod region has two very important natural resources: iron ore (more than 40% of the Russian total), and rich black soil.
