The Irish 'Barnyard Series' of coins features animals that were very important to Ireland's mainly agricultural economy.

The shilling features a bull. Cows and the breeding of cattle was very important in Ireland's early agricultural economy.

This is the original shilling -- minted between 1928 and 1937 -- that was part of the first coinage of the Irish Free State. The bull design was continued with a modified obverse in 1939 (KM14), followed by a copper-nickel version (KM14a) struck from 1951 to 1968.
