Singapore 1-DOLLAR (KM314)

Merlion

Although "sea-loins" (lions with fish tails) have a bit of history in India, the UK, and back to ancient times, the adoption of the "Merlion" by Singapore dates back to 1964 when it was created as the logo for the Singapore Tourism Board.

In 1972, a 8.6 m high, 70 ton Merlion statue was unveiled. That's big, but not as big as the gigantic replica statue that stands 37 m high. That one has a "Mouth Gallery Viewing Deck" on the ninth storey, and another viewing platform on her head.

When you have a good marketing idea, you gotta run with it! (Including spreading the Merlion to Japan, China, and the USA.)
