Kazakhstan 100-TENGE (KM51)

Non-circulating coin

Bori (Wolf)

Here is the Kazakh National Bank's explanation for this image as it first appears on the 1993 3 tenge coin:

"Wolf" (bori) is ancient totem personage to whom Saks bowed. The representation was taken from Altai memorials of VI century BCE. Wolf was respected by all Turkic peoples as a symbol of bravery and nobility of our ancestry.

"Saks" are better known as the Scythians.
