Malawi 1-KWACHA (KM212) African Fish Eagle

The African Fish Eagle is one of 11 species of sea eagles of which the Bald Eagle is also a member. At first glance, this large (up to 2.4 metre wingspan) bird of prey looks like its close cousin, but where the Bald Eagle's white head stops at the neck, the African Fish Eagle's pure white plumage continues much further into the breast area.

Around 1971 Malawi switched to decimal coinage, with 100 Tambala per Kwacha. In 2012, the kwacha coin was changed to stainless steel and reduced in size. As of 2013, it is one of only three circulating coins (the others being the 5- and 10-kwacha).
