Eritrea 100-CENTS (KM48)

African Bush Elephant

I will assume this is an African Bush Elephant (Loxodonta africana) and her calf, since that is the species found in Eritrea. This is the larger of the two African Elephant species, although, some biologists still consider this to be the same species as the African Forest Elephant (Loxodonta cyclotis).

The unit of currency of Eritrea is the Nakfa, and this is a one nakfa coin. It was minted in 1997 only (the 1991 date on the reverse refers to the year the "de facto" state was formed).
