The Gabonese Republic is located on the equator on the west coast of Africa. Originally populated by pygmies, it was taken over by France during the "colonial" period and achieved independence in 1960.
In 1910, Gabon joined three other territories as part of "French Equatorial Africa" which survived until 1959.
A combination of few people and lots of oil has made Gabon wealthy.
