Moldova issued a new coin family in 2018, consisting of four coins that together form the image of the head of an aurochs.
An aurochs is an extinct species of very large wild cattle, and is the ancestor of all modern day cows. It is also one of two unofficial national animal emblems of Moldova. (The other is the sheep.) On the new 10-lei bimetallic coin, we have the aurochs' nose and mouth.
Huge thanks to Maria for donating this coin!
All coin images in Daniel's Coin Zoo are from my personal collection. I collect, research, and personally photograph every coin displayed on this site. PLEASE do not take my images without permission. If you would like to use any coin image you see, just ask me. Thank you.
