Madagascar 2-ARIARY (KM30)

The Madagascar zebu is an indigenous cattle breed in Madagascar with distinctive lyre-shaped horns. This breed was used in the development of another breed in Madagascar -- the Renitelo -- which is almost extinct on the island. The Madagascar Zebu is a tri-purpose cow, used for milk, meat, and work.

This coin was issued one year only, in 2003. The "Ariary" is one of only a few non-decimal denominations in the world. It is equivalent to 5 francs, and one-fifth of an ariary is one iraimbilanja. The ariary became the official currency of Madagascar on January 1, 2005.
