The Ram Shilling was issued from 1938 to 1964, after which Australia went to decimal coinage and a 'shilling' became ten cents.
In 1946, the silver content was reduced to 0.500.
Australia is one of the world's largest producers of lamb and mutton, and the world's largest exporter of mutton and live sheep. As of 2012, Australia's national sheep flock numbered nearly 75 million.
