This 2009 circulating commemorative coin from the History of Polish Cavalry Series features a Polish hussar, a heavy cavalry soldier dating back to 1500.

Throughout the 16th century, the hussars of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth won many decisive victories, sometimes against overwhelming odds. Although termed "heavy", they were highly maneuverable and considered the elite of the Commonwealth's armed forces until the 18th century.
