While the state was named "Zaire" (1971-1997) only six different circulating coins were issued, and only one of those featured an animal.
The image on the coin is the coat of arms of Zaire, which features a menacing leopard head, with an elephant tusk to the right. The same leopard head is featured on the current coat of arms (Democratic Republic of the Congo).
All coin images in Daniel's Coin Zoo are from my personal collection. I collect, research, and personally photograph every coin displayed on this site. PLEASE do not take my images without permission. If you would like to use any coin image you see, just ask me. Thank you.
