In 2014, Burundi issued a commemorative set of coins featuring birds. The combined mintage of 1.8 million indicates they are intended for circulation.
The Crowned eagle (aka African crowned eagle aka Crowned hawk-eagle aka Stephnoaetus coronatus) is one of the larger eagles of the world, measuring 90-99 cm in length and a wingspan of 1.5 to over 1.8 m. These birds of prey are found only in Africa, mostly in forested areas across sub-Saharan Africa.
