USA 25-CENTS (KM293) Horse
The state quarter program was launched in 1999, with five different quarters being issued each year for 10 years.
Delaware had the very first coin issued in the series. The reverse design shows the horseback ride of Caesar Rodney, who rode 130 km (80 miles) through a thunderstorm from Delaware to Philadelphia on the night of July 1, 1776 to cast the deciding vote on the nation's independence.
(Thanks to George for emailing me a correction on this coin. One wonders how I could have said this coin featured Paul Revere when the rider's name is clearly engraved on the coin!)
