Kazakhstan 50-TENGE (KM206)

Non-circulating coin

Griffin

This coin celebrates the Kazakh city of Aktobe, with the city's official emblem on the coin's obverse, featuring a griffin (aka griffon, gryphon). The griffin has the body and tail of a lion, with the head and wings of an eagle, along with the eagle's claws on its front legs.

Try as I might, I could not find any information on the history or significance of the griffin to the city of Aktobe.

The denomination "tenge" means "scale" in Kazakh.
