Vanuatu 5-VATU (KM5)

Giant Triton

The Giant triton aka Triton's Trumpet (Charonia tritonis) is a very large sea snail found throughout the Indo-Pacific oceans. The shell is prized as a decorative item and can be used as a trumpet. It is also called a "conch" (say "konk") which includes many different medium to large sea snails whose shells have distinctive points at both ends.

"Ripablik Blong Vanuatu" is the most awesome legend I have ever seen on a coin. It is actually Bislama for "Republic of Vanuatu."

Under the coat of arms is their motto "Long God yumi stanap" which is Bislama for "In God we stand." And, while we are enjoying this language, their national anthem is "Yumi, Yumi, Yumi."

As of 2011, the 5-vatu is the smallest coin denomination in Vanuatu.
