Iran 500-RIAL (KM1269)

Simurgh

The simurgh -- an Iranian benevolent, mythical flying creature -- is a depiction from the Shahnameh ("Book of Kings"), an epic poem by the ancient Persian poet Ferdowski (c. late 10th - earlier 11th century). The poem is very important in Persian culture and is the national epic of Greater Iran.

This bi-metallic version of the simurgh coin was minted from 2003 to 2007.
