There are over 50 species of seahorse making up the Hippocampus genus of fish. I know of at least four species found around Singapore (but there could be more): Tiger tail seahorse, Common seahorse, Hedgehog seahorse, and Low-crowned seahorse.

Seahorses are used in Traditional Chinese Medicine, which helps account for their current vulnerability world-wide from over harvesting. They are also sold dried as souvenirs and harvested for the aquarium trade, where most die before reaching an aquarium and many die soon afterward.

loc_singaporeThe Republic of Singapore is made up of over 60 islands and is home to a diverse population of over 5 million people. The country's land area has grown from less than 600 square kilometres in the 1960s to over 700 square kilometres in 2010, with the potential to add another 100 square kilometers, all through land reclamation projects.

Singapore's history is based on its strategic importance as a port, and today it remains one of the busiest ports in the world. The country is among the wealthiest and most globalized on earth and among the top ten countries on earth for foreign reserves holdings. Its market-based economy has been ranked among the world's ten most open, competitive, and innovative, and the World Bank ranks Singapore as the world's top logistics hub.

Singapore maintains excellent relationships with its neighbours, and many countries all over the world.
