Lithuania 1-LITAS (KM76) Horse

The image of Vytis -- the White Knight -- on horseback was first used in 1366 on the seal of the Grand Duke of Lithuania. From there it was handed down through centuries, making its way onto heraldic shields and state emblems.

This is the first silver coin from the Republic period (1918-1940). It was issued one-year only. Vytis and his horse are in the typical pose: Vytis with sword overhead, leaning forward on a charging horse with its tail down.
