Ireland 1-PUNT (KM27) Red Deer

The Red deer (aka the Elk in North America) is the second largest species of deer in the world, after the Moose (aka Elk in Europe, just to confuse things). It is the largest native land mammal in Ireland and the British Isles.

The Red Deer first appeared on the Irish Punt (Pound) in 1990 and stayed until 2000, after which Ireland switched to new Euro coinage (sadly, with no animals on them).
