Daniel's Coin Zoo - Welcome CCRS Members!

WELCOME TO DANIEL'S COIN ZOO! The "Coin Zoo" exhibits animal coins (aka "numismatic fauna") from around the world. Eventually, all circulating coins with animals on them will be displayed. This will include every animal type coin minted around the world from 1901 to the present (over 900 pieces).

Most of the coins will be circulating issues, as opposed to special collector issues. Mints around the world have made literally thousands of special issue animal coins for collectors. But the Coin Zoo will be populated mainly with animals that were important enough to a country to put on their national circulating coinage, that is, the everyday change that citizens use in daily transactions.

The Zoo Keeper extends a warm welcome to members of the Canadian Coin Reference Site (CCRS) discussion forum!

It was the CCRS discussion group that helped bring me back into the numismatic world to stay. After leaving high school in 1980, my coin hobby fell by the wayside for about 22 years. After visiting the Royal Canadian Mint in Ottawa in April 2002, I was inspired to return to the hobby. A short time later I stumbled across the CCRS discussion group and was welcomed into the fold.

After three years as a member of CCRS, I have personally met at least a dozen collectors and dealers from the discussion group and enjoyed great fellowship and conversation. Without this personal connection, I probably would have drifted away. (Now I'm stuck building this Coin Zoo, and this isn't even my main collecting interest!)
