In 1965, the Kruger Gray Cape Sparrows design was replaced with this design by Tommy Sasseen, first on the one cent piece (KM65), then on this half-cent coin. Unlike the one cent issue which had two versions, this issue features a bilingual obverse (English and Afrikaans).
