Black Wildebeest
The Black Wildebeest featured on this coin is easily distinguished from the other type -- the Blue Wildebeest -- by the shape of its horns, which curve sharply back. (There are many visual differences, but the horns give it away on the coin.) Endemic to the southern part of Africa, the natural populations have been almost completely exterminated as pests, and now they have been re-introduced from captive animals.
