The 'E' on the bottom of the obverse (just to the left of the date) indicates that this piece was issued for Cameroon, but it could freely circulate among the other member countries of the Central African States. The objective was to track how the coins circulated, but the practice was dropped in 1996 as it didn't really tell them anything.
