Botswana 10-THEBE (KM32) Oryx (Gemsbok)

The Oryx is a grazing antelope that is specially adapted for hot and arid conditions. They have been known to gore lions with their long straight horns. Of the four species of Oryx, this particular fellow on the 10-thebe coin is most likely a Gemsbok (sometimes called a South African Oryx).

The Oryx 10-thebe coin was originally issued in 1976 and was replaced with a smaller version in 1998. Then, in 2013, it grew from 18 mm to 20 mm when all seven circulating coins were replaced with brand new ones.

  • Diameter: 20 mm
  • Composition: Nickel-clad Steel
